We have made it to the Bahamas :)
We did an overnight sail to get to the Bahamas. It was really nice because it wasn’t wavy and it was pretty short. We left around 11:00 pm and got there at like 10 am so when I went to bed I woke up in the Bahamas which was pretty cool. ( Also the water is so clear and beautiful that it's like a turquoise colour almost.)
We went to these cool really remote islands(berry islands) for Christmas but there were a lot of other boats with us. Also, this place had no people living on it and there was no garbage on the beaches. I thought that the Bahamas would be all palm trees and mangroves but it's actually mostly just normal trees, there are a lot of mangroves though.
On Christmas Eve we went to this cool blue hole with some of our friends. It was just this big really deep blue hole (it’s over 500 feet deep) that you could swim in and there was even a cliff that you could jump off that was around 20 feet tall. There was also kind of like a little cave that you could go in, it was really fun and pretty easy to get to. Later that day we opened our gifts and had Christmas dinner:]
On Christmas day we went to a potluck for supper with the other boats in the anchorage. Everything was really good and I think that everyone came. We just ate and all the kids played tag. The boat we had it on was huge so we weren’t all cramped together.
The next few days we kind of just waited until we could leave the anchorage since there wasn’t a weather window or whatever. While we were waiting to leave we caught some conch with our friends and they showed us how to open it and cook it. I didn’t like it but it was still fun to catch them. We also had a fire on the beach and we saw turtles, a nurse shark and also saw a few barracudas which are just these big grey fish.
When we were finally able to leave we went to a Bohemian town (Spanish Wells) which was a really cool little town, all the houses were colourful and all the palm leaves made it look really pretty and everything just seemed pretty chill. Instead of using all cars, they used almost all golf carts. You could rent them for the day and drive them around the island and we did end up renting one which was really fun to drive around. We didn’t spend too much time in Spanish Wells but we went to a really fun fireworks show the day after New Year's and they set them off on a barge. But in the end, all of the boxes caught on fire and they were in the water the show was still really cool and they were also the quietest fireworks I’ve ever seen. There were also people at their houses setting them off in their yards which was also really exciting. There was a live band performing during the fireworks but the lead guitarist/singer was sick and couldn’t come but they still did a great job. (happy 2025)
